About
My studio practise creates the visual narrative of the relationship between nature and the man-made, as many of the artworks capture scenes of nature relationship with manmade objects, showing the harmony and the unique structures that comes from the interactions. The scenes I base my landscape paintings are on compositions I see in person, which makes my studio practice more authentic to the subject matter of my studio practice. I create a visual narrative in my studio practice through my landscape’s paintings perspective are close and low-down compositions as it creates an immersive scene as that perspective allows me to add detail such as the texture of the foliage and of the man-made structures and objects.
I paint with oil paint onto canvas, and I apply an under paint of burnt sienna on the canvas as it is a way for me to establish tone and composition and burnt sienna adds a warmer tone which I find helpful for capturing nature as it brings out the green foliage that is found in my paintings. I use a very chromatic palette, as I use as many different colours as possible of oil paint I and get a hold of. This is because my artwork is in the style of impressionism, so I use a lot of saturated, vivid colours and the tones are exaggerated so I make use of the Ivory black and titanium white.
My studio practice is about capturing nature and the man-made structures together, showing them in harmony or in conflict. My current studio practice is not commentary on whether industrialisation is good or bad, as the artworks, I’ve done so far has shown how nature and the man-made can create new structures as nature itself has alter structures in unique ways. Such as, my painting the wall with the stump captures how this tree stump has grown through a wall in a unique way, I’m sure not it’s not an uncommon occurrence but the composition itself isn’t. The uniqueness is exaggerated by the impressionism influence approach I currently take in studio practise, as I use a very chromatic palette, making use of saturated colour. This approach made my work look artificial making an interesting contrast with the natural structures.
